The best parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure has some of the most unique stories in all of anime and manga. It all begins when a stone mask reveals its true power. This only adds fuel to the fire of a conflict between the Joestar and Brando families. Some would even call it a very bizarre turn of events.

So here's every part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, ranked.

Part Nine – JoJo Lands

A promising adventure

Jojo Lands protagonist Jodio and his stand November Rain.

Jojo Lands offers long-time fans a Jojo that's a little less upright, with a rather unique stand. It's hard to rank a Jojo side when it's barely passed the front gates. The star of Jojolands is Jodio who has only one goal. This is to get rich while committing various crimes in Hawaii.

While Jodio shares a similar name to two of the most popular characters in Jojo's history, another trait that makes fans take note of this part is the strange stance that comes with it. This is November rain, which can bring down heavy drops that cause destruction. This is already a unique protagonist to follow as the series unfolds.

Part One – Ghost Blood

A battle between good and evil

Phantom Blood, Jonathan and Dio meet for the first time

In terms of completed parts, Phantom Blood is at the bottom of the list. However, this does not mean that you should skip it. It contains elements of horror that can leave any fan of the dark and creepy wanting more. It also features the most honorable and tragic Jojo of them all, Jonathan Joestar.

While the part may not be as long or have the biggest twists and turns, the conflict between Jonathan and Dio is worth watching. This is also where Dio is at his most vampirish with his elegant way of speaking, being ear candy for any anime fan. For the full Phantom Blood experience, read the manga, which has more content.

Part Five – The Golden Wind

A disconnected but satisfying journey

The Golden Wind is fantastic. However, as far as Jojo's parts go, it has little relevance to everything that happens in the rest of the series. While the topic of Giorno being Dio's son is quickly swept under the rug, there's still a lot left for.

Set in Venice, it follows Giorno as he tries to rise through the ranks of the mob to protect the innocent using his influence. However, after an escort mission goes awry, Giorno and his new allies become enemy number one, with the stand users at the helm.

Part Six – The Stone Ocean

The end of a timeline

A shot from the intro to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean with Jolyne and her green dolphin prison allies.

Some fans hate Stone Ocean and some love it. However, it has a Jojo that uses clever problem solving to defeat enemies that simply cannot be defeated by brute force alone. Jolyne's role is a culmination of everything that came before, but can often leave you with mixed feelings.

It introduces interesting concepts like Dio having multiple children, but doesn't do much with them despite their potential. The Green Baby process can also seem a bit more complicated to follow until you see the end result. The story is also mostly confined to the Green Dolphin Prison until Jolyne's Escape.

Part eight – Jojolion

A mystery that continues to go deeper

Gappy uses Soft and Wet in Jojolion Manga

Jojolion offers plenty in terms of a good mystery, interesting stands, and the return of one of the greatest original locations in Jojo's history. Like Steel Ball Run, the story is enhanced by taking place in the new continuity instead of being stuck to the original timeline.

As the eighth Jojo, Josuke or Gappy tries to discover the truth behind his identity as well as his connection to the Joestar family tree. Part Eight also benefits from having many fights that take you deeper into Jojolion's larger mystery, as opposed to feeling like the random stand user of the week. If anything, its biggest flaw is having a final antagonist that doesn't fit in with the rest of the main villains.

4

Part Two – Battle Tendency

No brackets, no problem

The Pillar Men posing in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part Two, Battle Tendency.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure took a major left turn in terms of main characters. While Jonathan is the epitome of pure good in the series, Joseph Joestar has a kind heart but has a difficult energy about him that catches friends and foes off guard.

This personality is what makes Battle Tendency such a joy to read or watch. As the episode escalates, the vampire threat is eclipsed by the awakening of the Pillar People; with their contrasting personalities to Joseph's, it's quite fun to see how they learn to defeat them by thinking outside the box. So while Battle Tendency lacks supports, it can stand proud as one of the best Jojo parts.

3

Part Three – The Stardust Crusaders

Introduction of stands

Dio and Jotaro fight with their close stands.

Stardust Crusaders is by far one of the most popular parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It has everything you could want for someone to immediately invest in the series. It has a menacing enemy, the introduction of Stand abilities, and characters who have a lot of chemistry traveling halfway around the world together.

Stardust Crusaders is also enhanced by having more animations like Ova or the official anime. This only helps him make an even more lasting impact on fans. While this might put Stardust Crusaders over the top, other parts do some aspects better. Regardless, you should never skip parts to get to Stardust Crusaders.

2

Part seven – steel ball run

A race across America

Johnny Joestar posing with Stand in the Steel Ball Run manga

Steel Ball Run starts off strong, taking place in a new continuity from everything that came before. It is best described as a mash-up of the first three parts of Jojo. The Joestar and Brando conflict returns, but it's not exactly a battle between pure good and pure evil.

Meanwhile, you have Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli's journey that takes them across America on horseback. With each competitor in Steel Ball Run Race having their own reasons to win, this makes the enemies and allies they encounter that much more compelling. The installment also offers a decent mystery about the true purpose of the race, which sets the stage for the new timeline.

Part Four – Diamond Is Unbreakable

A stellar location and memorable characters

A collage of characters from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure standing in a city in front of a building.

Diamond is Unbreakable is the fourth installment of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and benefits from many of the story decisions made for the plot. Being in Morioh throughout the plot allows it to feel more like a special location in Jojo's world. This is not just a place that is visited briefly during a long journey, this is home.

While other parts have a more pressing objective, Diamond is Unbreakable takes it easy and allows the characters to breathe. When the main villain is finally revealed, it puts both the town and the characters you've grown to love in danger. With Yoshikage Kira on the loose and present throughout the story, you might even end up rooting for him by accident.
