Now series creator Glen Schofield has revealed that he pitched Dead Space 4 to the company earlier this year, only for them to shoot it down instantly.
Dead Space 4 is not happening, says Glen Schofield
Glen Schofield clearly has a strong affinity for Dead Space, recently revealing that “It would be cool to do a new one.” He thought it would be so cool that he released a fourth game for EA earlier this year, only for the company to shoot it down.
Speaking on the Dan Allen Gaming podcast, Schofield said: “I tried, I actually tried. Dead Space 4. We're talking this year.”
I tried, I actually tried. Dead Space 4. We're talking this year.
However, the talks did not go very far as it was revealed that EA was not willing to accept the idea. “I didn't go too deep; they just said, “We're not interested right now. We appreciate that and know who to talk to.” We respect their opinions; they know their number and what they have to send,” Schofield said.
Schofield's colleague Christopher Stone, who appeared on the podcast alongside the former CEO of Striking Distance Studios, blamed the difficulties facing the gaming industry for EA's decision. “The industry is in a weird place right now. People are very hesitant to take risks right now. Who knows, maybe one day. I think we'd all like to do it,” Stone said. Given that EA is one of hundreds of companies to lay off staff in the past two years, their risk is no surprise.

Schofield's most recent title, The Callisto Protocol, heavily inspired by Dead Space, was largely considered a failure. It reviewed poorly, scoring a 2.5/5 from us at TheGamer and an average score of 67 at OpenCritic, released with some major stuttering issues that led to negative sentiment from audiences, and failed to to recoup its $162 million development costs. Hopefully EA will finally give Schofield a chance at redemption with Dead Space 4.
Dead Space is a 2023 remake of the classic survival horror shooter from Motive Studio. Rebuilt from the ground up, you play as Isaac Clarke as he navigates a mining ship that has been taken over by a deadly alien threat.
