Understanding the basics of Depths of Illusive Realm will ensure you can reap the rewards with every refresh and have the resources to get and build the next character you want. We will go over all the essential information here.
How the depths of the illusory realm work
The depths of the illusory realm, which you unlock at Union level 17, is a rogue-lite mod similar to Honkai: Star Rail's Simulated Universe, with a few key differences.
- Take on one character at a time.
- The the only bonuses your character has are skills and weapon stats. Echo buffs are removed.
- Any additional characters you earn provide support skills only.
- You can use characters provided by the game if you don't have any at the right level.
- At high difficulties, you can add modifiers to make the experience easier or harder for smaller or larger rewards.
There are six difficulty levels for Depths of Illusive Realmstarting at level 70 and increasing in five-level increments to max difficulty at level 100. Note that since the maximum level of a character in Wuthering Waves is 90, any enemy higher than this will inherently have increased damage and damage resistance based on the difference between your character's level and theirs.
Once you're up and running, you'll make some initial choices:
- A skills based on the character you chose.
- An echo skill which provide additional attacks, plus new buffs and abilities once you unlock them.
- A Token which changes how you progress through the mode.
The mode itself takes place in a number of arenas, starting with ten of them at level 70 and increasing with each level of difficulty.
METAPHORS
Your first arena will always be a single encounter area where you face a few simple enemiesand once they are defeated, you can interact with the white cat to choose from one of three Metaphors.
Metaphors are rogue mechanics, activity upgrades that don't just give you improved stats. They all also come in one of four items, each of which improves different aspects of your character:
Elements |
Effect |
Description |
---|---|---|
Air |
Concerto/Intro Skills and Cooldown Enhancement |
Aero Lovers are designed to enhance Concerto and Intro skillsespecially when you have one or more summoned teammates. The higher their level, the stronger or more varied the effect. There are some that reduce the cooldown of your abilities. |
Electro |
Improving the resonance capacity |
Electro lovers focus on improving the ability to resonate and releasewhether it increases their damage, adds effects, or reduces their cooldown. |
Fusion |
Damage buffs in Crit Rate/Damage/Atk |
Fusion lovers are very simple. They are designed to increase your damage output in some way, either by increasing critical damage, rate, or attack stat. |
Ice |
Shield Application/HP Buffs |
Glacio lovers are some of the most comfortable on offer, providing and improving the effects of shields and increasing your health and damage resistors in other ways. |
Which elemental perk you choose will depend on two factors: the character you use in Depths of Illusive Realm and the Echo you chose at the beginning of the activity.
between the two, improving the Echo is probably more importantas their effects can make or break a run. If you collect enough of either item, you're likely to have enough buffs to make most fights a cakewalk.
If you come across a metaphor that doesn't fit your current echo but would greatly improve your build, don't be afraid to pick it up. This is especially true for a level three metaphor that increases both Critical Rate and Damage, for example.
How to beat the depths of the illusory realm
Beating the Depths of the Illusive Realm is a matter of skill, stamina and a bit of luck. As a rogue-lite mode, the metaphors, echoes, and tokens you can get are random, so you won't feel overwhelmed on every run. That said, there are some basic strategies you can use to be more consistently successful.
- Always choose Bridged Dreamscape when it appears. You can add a support character to your roster. completing the only encounter inside, and these are invaluable on higher difficulties.
- Choose an Echo that synergizes with your character. Equipping Bell-Borne Geochelone on Shorekeeper, for example, can make her nearly invulnerable with enough investment.
- When possible, choose Memory of a Fierce Struggle to have more arenas and therefore more Metaphor options per room.
- Spend your Dream Shards wisely. Whenever you encounter Ebony Gatekeeper, spend your coin on Echo-specific upgrades first, then fill out your build with whatever else fits.
most importantly, update the Thought Evolution progress board. Each run in the Depths of Illusive Realm will grant Memory Points, and spending them on Evolution of Thought nodes immediately and permanently improves your character (for the current cycle, anyway). These perks increase your health and damage, crit rate, and provide additional bonuses that make even the hardest difficulty, level 100, a much easier task to overcome.
Don't be afraid of failure
. If your characters aren't up to scratch build-wise, or if you have a bad run with a worse RNG, you'll still get memory points to spend to improve your performance in Depths of Illusive Realm.
Don't forget this you don't have to try the highest difficulty available, and there is nothing wrong with using trial characters for the higher difficulties. You'll still receive points and illusory specimens for participating in or completing lower difficulty races that you can spend to eventually solve the harder content.
After all, Depths of Illusive Realm tests your fundamentals with every character on your roster. Dodging, parrying, and skill use are all tested here, enhanced with the additional enhancements provided by Metaphor.
Depths Of Illusive Realm Rewards
There are two main reward paths in Depths of Illusive Realm.
- Echo in activity and material rewards. For completing milestones in Depths of Illusive Realm, you'll be able to spend 1 of 12 reward points to obtain a collection of high-rarity Echoes, including Boss Echoes, as well as a large number of upgrade materials.
- Asters and currencies earned by spending the Illusive Specimen at the Illusive Shop outside of the activity. You'll have to work your way through increasing difficulties to unlock access to all of them, but the Illusive Shop is one of the main ways to access the Astrite rewards, XP materials, and crafting items offered by the mod.
How many activity rewards you get depends on the difficulty you select. For difficulties one through three, the reward percentage will be constant, but once you unlock difficulty level 90, you can add modifiers to the activity.
Helpful modifiers called Reverie Memes make Depths of Illusive Realm easier, but reduce the rewards you receive. These include making it easier to improve your rating during battle (Symphonic Rank), giving bonuses and perks at high symphonic ranks, and so on.
Harmful modifiers called Nightmare Memes make Depths of Illusive Realm more difficult, but increase your rewards. Debuffs applied can be flat defense or HP reductions, or increase the damage enemies can take, and so on.
Symphony Rank works like battle ratings in Devil May Crywith a consistently good performance that increases your rank to SS and you take damage or don't attack for long periods causing your rank to drop to D rank.
How many modifiers you add depends on your goal. for the race. If all you care about is completing it as quickly and easily as possible, load up on Reverie Memes and have a good time. If you want a real challenge and rewards commensurate with that struggle, you can make Depths of Illusive Realm a real meat grinder.
Whichever method you choose, Depths of Illusive Realm is a fantastic way to test your skills.
