The Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes controversy explained

Diablo 4 saw one of its biggest updates since launch in 2023 with the release of The vessel of hate Season 6 DLC and Content From the new class known as Spiritborn to enemies called Realmwalkers, the fresh content from Diablo 4 brings more action to the foreground. However, when it comes to the Infernal Hordes mode, players trying to enjoy couch co-op have encountered a significant bug that prevents them from completing their runs.

Despite the influx of new content Season 6 and The vessel of hate bring, couch co-op Diablo 4 faced a string of bad luck. Another issue arose last month when players realized that the DLC's Dark Citadel-style raid didn't support couch co-op. Now, players trying to experience Infernal Hordes through this method get stuck mid-race with no clear way out.

Diablo 4's infernal hordes controversy leaves co-op players on the couch unable to finish games

A frustrating bug makes infernal hordes a real pain

As of now, it looks like this Infernal Hordes issue is mostly a couch co-op issue. The wave-based mode can be a fun way to defeat enemy attacks, but unfortunately for couch co-op, players will seemingly not complete the quest. A Reddit user known as MaidenlessRube expressed his frustration about the Diablo 4 subreddit, stating that this issue happens regularly when trying local co-op mode. New waves will stop spawning, leaving players stuck in mode with no way forward. This isn't the first problem Infernal Hordes has had either.

Continuous errors preventing players from completing their objectives

A similar bug that previously plagued players of Infernal Hordes is the final goal of the mod. Once the ongoing waves of enemies reach the final stage, players will be tasked with taking down the Fell Council. However, according to feedback posted on the official Blizzard forum found on the company's website, some players have defeated the Fell Council but nothing happens, leaving them unable to continue.

While this isn't the same couch co-op issue plaguing players, it was still a shockingly similar softlock issue that may deter some from playing Infernal Hordes entirely. Player Allisonk98 stated on Reddit that the softlock “happens so much I almost stop playing.” Diablo 4 we got a recent hotfix and it still didn't change anything about the Infernal Hordes issue.

No end in sight for Diablo 4's Infernal Hordes Bug

Blizzard has not fixed the issue yet

As of this writing, there is currently no known plan from Blizzard to fix the Infernal Hordes local co-op issues. While the developer has addressed Spiritborn's overpowered gameplay, players who want to experience Infernal Hordes with another player may have to wait a little longer for the issue to be resolved. What's even more frustrating for players is how long this problem lasts. According to MaidenlessRube, “this has already happened since the beginning of season 5”.

It is not known how long this problem will persist for players on the couch. Unfortunately, since it was recently revealed that most Diablo 4 players are solo, it may not be a priority for Blizzard right now. Only time will tell if this bug will be fixed soon, but for those who wanted to try out Infernal Hordes in local co-op, it might be best to proceed with caution.
