Sega surprised many Sonic the Hedgehog fans at The Game Awards 2024, with a new racing title confirmed for release in 2025. A rumor circulating about the next step in the Sonic the Hedgehog series may mean that an old adventure with a new coat of paint is coming very soon.

Given its focus on speed, Sonic the Hedgehog the franchise is no stranger to racing games. Although it is a unique kart racer, it is a highly controversial entry in the franchise and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds looks to be another throwback to the kart racing formula, following in the footsteps of its mobile cousin. While not much was revealed in this cinematic trailer as it doesn't feature gameplay, it looks like the focus will be on visiting multiple worlds through these rings.


While Shadow's Dark Reaper car is in focus in this trailer, some eagle-eyed fans spotted the shape of a plate hanging in the background, similar to Extreme Gear from Ride Sonic subseries. As such, some fans claim that this game will have a hybrid Sonic Racing and Ride Sonicplaystyles, having the chance to ride a car or hoverboard during a race. Fans will have to wait until Sega provides more information about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
