Cameron Lee, who joined Ubisoft in 2022 as the company's vice president Rainbow Six franchise, has apparently left the company. A new report claims a reason for Lee's departure from Rainbow Six franchise and Ubisoft is unknown, but an internal email to the company suggests that one of Ubisoft's most popular franchises will be without its VP and executive producer for the time being.
With over 20 years of experience in the gaming industry, Lee has worked at some of the biggest studios around. He became a household name in the industry when he started working at EA as a Lead Producer on titles such as Dead Space and The godfatherand later joined Bioware before eventually leaving for Bungie in 2016. Lee then became vice president of production for Activision in 2019, but will leave the role in 2022 to join Ubisoft Rainbow Six franchise as vice president and executive producer. But a new report now suggests that Lee could be preparing to announce a new role after nearly three years at Ubisoft.
A new report from Insider Gaming, which claims to have seen an internal email from Ubisoft, states that Cameron Lee has left Ubisoft Montreal after being there for just under three years. The report gave no reason for Lee's sudden departure, but claims that Ubisoft is in no rush to replace the former vice president, as an email sent to staff states that the role will not be replaced “for now.” After working on titles such as Call of dutyLee seemed like a perfect fit to keep Rainbow Six franchise as one of the best tactical shooter series around, so the director's shocking departure could be a huge blow to Ubisoft.
The Rainbow Six franchise is without a vice president
while Rainbow Six Siege continues to break records, the series as a whole has been carried by the popular first-person shooter for many years. A spin-off, Rainbow Six Extractionwas released in 2022 but failed to captivate players in the same way as Siege it did when it launched in 2015. When Lee joined the company in 2022, Ubisoft said the vice president and executive producer would be “responsible for creating the long-term brand strategy for Rainbow Six franchise,” suggesting that the studio had plans for the series beyond just Siege.
Having made his intentions clear to continue building on the famous franchise, a reliable leaker took to Twitter earlier this month to tease the potential new name of the next Rainbow Six game. Although fans were eager for a new main game in the series, the leaked one would disappoint fans and reveal that the title will be a sequel to Rainbow Six: SMOLa top-down rogue-lite game available only on mobile through Netflix Games.
