There are plenty of reasons for fans Remainder 2 to get excited about the game's promised third and final DLC content with The Dark Horizon expansion, but few live up to the hype surrounding the introduction of the new Warden archetype. As a strong plus to Remainder 2’s existing meta, Warden gives both new and returning players more survivability in the early to mid game, allowing them to be more sufficient in solo play thanks to a toolset that includes a drone with three different modes: fight, heal, and shield. For anyone who may be a lapsed gamer, Warden is a powerful excuse to dive back in Remainder 2.
In a recent conversation with Game Rant to discuss the design process behind the creation of the Warden and other archetypes, Remainder 2Its lead designers talked about why players might want to run a brand new character using Warden after picking up The Dark Horizon. As a strong support class that is more than capable of holding its own in combat, the Warden is a versatile, versatile option that proves to be just as viable in solo play as it is in co-op as part of of a team.
Remnant 2's designers break down what makes the Warden a great archetype
One of the biggest selling points for the Warden archetype is its intended synergy with every other existing archetype in Remainder 2. As another class built around the lore of N'Erud, the Warden works particularly well with the Engineer, but that doesn't mean other team compositions shouldn't bring a Warden into their ranks. Lead Gameplay Designer Ben Cureton notes that the introduction of the Warden is meant to be a great class that works with everything that already exists in Remainder 2 meta.
“We thought with this one, let's make sure that every drone can offer something for every build, within reason.”
To that end, the Warden ends up being an incredibly powerful starting class that's great for new players, but also presents a strong option for returning players who are interested in introducing a new character to check out all the changes and updates coming along with The Dark Horizon story content. Cureton again emphasizes that the Warden's power and versatility were intentional design choices to help support the changes ahead Remainder 2.
“I think that will give a huge bonus or benefit to the returning players. It will be a different startup experience, right?
You'll feel a little stronger at first and then hopefully even out, but it's a pretty strong class overall because it's so versatile. Then we have things like Prisms, but that's not directly related to Warden.”
The new Prism system in Remainder 2 it's designed as a way to make end-game progression both more interesting and varied. Taken together with the introduction of the Warden Archetype, it is clear that new updates will come to Remainder 2 are meant to deliver more of what fans already enjoy about the title and its power fantasy. As senior designer Steve Bednarz points out, “The Warden, in particular, will pair well with anything where people are trying to be more tanky or more survivable.”
