As the end of 2024 approaches, Helldivers 2 introduced eight new premium Warbonds since the game first launched in February of this year. Among these new Warbonds, Chemical Agents has been the only premium Warbond to include Stratagems so far, effectively locking them behind a paywall. while Helldivers 2The follow-up to Chemical Agents did not include any Stratagems, the Chemical Agents Warbond still leaves the door open for future Warbonds to include Stratagems.
While the Stratagems featured in Chemical Agents Warbond are considered niche compared to the current Stratagem meta, the decision to lock Stratagems behind a paywall almost turned into another controversy for Helldivers 2with the concern that this could make the game pay to win. Despite the initial backlash that arose from Helldivers 2 by adding Stratagems to premium Warbonds, there are probably more benefits to making this a recurring trend than risks.

The Illuminate faction will certainly be a threat if they make their way into Helldivers 2, but they'll need something to help them stand out right away.
Chemical agents in Helldivers 2 Warbond opens the door for more stratagems to appear in future Warbonds
Chemical Agents was the first premium Warbond from Helldivers 2 so far to include the Stratagems, which initially raised concerns that Helldivers 2 could move to a pay-to-win model. However, these two Stratagems, the TX-41 Sterilizer and AX/TX-13 “Watchdog” dog's breath are probably not a cause for concern as they are considered niche compared to the current Stratageme meta in Helldivers 2. Ultimately, there are valid arguments both ways as to whether Warbond-only Stragems could be beneficial to the game in the long run, but so far it seems like the benefits of this approach outweigh the potential risks.
The pros and cons of Helldivers 2's upcoming War Bonds, including stratagems
Pro
- Stratagems add more value to Warbonds without increasing their price.
- Premium Super Credits currency can be earned through natural gameplay.
- Premium War Bonds aren't the only way to earn Stratagems.
- Premium War Bonds are permanently available.
- The first Warbonds are optional content.
Cons
- Earning enough Super Credits for an in-game exclusive premium Warbond is a slow process.
- Stratagems becoming a regular addition to Warbonds could result in a price increase for premium Warbonds.
On the one hand, stratagems are some of the best weapons in Helldivers 2so adding these to future Warbonds increases the value of the Warbond without increasing the price. Not to mention, players can earn premium currency in Helldivers 2Super Credits, of course through the game. Premium Warbonds are also not the only source of Stratagems, with Helldivers 2His major orders that occasionally give Stratagem rewards for successful completion.
Collecting Super Samples in
Helldivers 2
it can be a slow process, as players normally only collect 10 Super Samples per pickup, although there is a rare chance that players will find a stack of 100 Super Samples.
On the other hand, Helldivers 2 it already has a price tag, and locking more and more coveted items like Stratagems behind paywalls can be frustrating for players who have already purchased the game. If these Stratagems immediately become the new meta, if the price of future Warbonds increases significantly, or both, the addition of Stratagems to Warbonds may change Helldivers 2 to the always controversial pay-to-win format. However, these are incredibly big “ifs” and so far there is no hard evidence to suggest that this will ever become true.
So despite the initial strong reactions to Warbonds with Stratagems, it's possible that this will become a trend in future updates for Helldivers 2and a harmless one at that. Since Chemical Agent Warbond already let the cat out of the bag without being too problematic, Stratagems becoming a regular addition to future Warbonds is probably not a cause for concern.
