WarframeIts next big update will launch with a new mini-game, a retro-style runner and shooter hidden in an in-game arcade. The new minigame is coming to Warframeinstead of being at the forefront of Digital Extremes, it was mainly the Sumo Digital project. Called Caliber Chicks 2, it's been part of the universe's lore for quite some time, teased in-game for over a year. Games that Rant talked to Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford and Caliber Chicks design director Nic Cusworth to learn more about what the game is like, as well as what fans can earn by playing it.

When talking about the details of what Caliber Chicks 2 will look like, Cusworth explained how classic run-and-gun titles inspired the development. In particular, he highlighted the influence Cons series.
“The team at DE already came up with character designs for Caliber Cubs and had a vision for the game to be a run and gun game. It was up to us, at Sumo, which direction to take it. i wanted to place the game, i went back to the games i was playing back then

Cusworth also added more details on how the game will work, saying that “the base loop is about 15 minutes, spread over three fairly extensive and varied levels.” However, he also noted that “the game ends with events that send you back to the beginning of the game — only things have changed. With each loop the world gets a little weirder and the challenge a lot more complicated.” These concepts, adjacent to time travel, seem appropriate for the surrounding themes Warframe: 1999.
Ford went on to describe how it will affect gameplay Warframehis wider community. The game will have “global leaderboards for players to fight for first place”, encouraging repeat play sessions and community engagement. All this effort to create a faithful retro-style arcade game, according to Ford, is largely to support the world-building — to “make the mission hub of Höllvania Central Mall feel more alive.”
Warframe's Caliber Chicks 2 rewards
Ford detailed the rewards players can get from playing this arcade minigame, many of which tie into what's to come. Warframe: 1999. Players will also be able to get numerous cosmetic rewards from the deal.
“Anyone who invests time and effort into secondary content should be rewarded in some way. If players get far enough in Caliber Chicks, they can earn some tokens and an emblem as rewards to use anywhere in the Origin system. Also, as I grow in The Hex Syndicate with Protoframes, Aoi will start offering Somachord pieces from Caliber Chicks to unlock.”
Additionally, Ford clarified how much fans will have to invest to earn them Warframe rewards. When asked if the team was concerned that the mini-game might have issues, she noted that “there are small bits of cosmetic content behind the mini-game, but [they] I want people who feel invested in those secondary experiences to be fairly rewarded,” emphasizing its role as secondary content.
