Which talents should you unlock first in Realm of Ink

Quick links

The Ink Realm is an example of a well-executed roguelike game, taking inspiration from the giant known as Hades. It does a few things to stand out from its inspiration and other games in the genre, such as adding a cute little pet that evolves alongside the player.

However, it has many similarities to other roguelike games, such as the gameplay loop, combat mechanics, and meta progression system. The game isn't very stingy with its resources, nor is it particularly difficult to beat, but there's something to be said for the efficiency of resource allocation.

How talents work in Realm of Ink

How to unlock talents in Realm of Ink 2

There are a few different ways to meta progress in The Ink Realm. First, players can unlock new characters or skins and try out their different abilities. Second, they can evolve their pet, Momo, by feeding it. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, players can invest in talents and perks that increase their chances of completing a race.

You can buy talents from Talent Stars using Foxblood, a fairly plentiful resource that you'll automatically collect as you go through a room and fight enemies. In total, there are 33 talents you can unlock, not including the parent talents that are unlocked on their own. They are divided into four levels and three categories, i.e. Damage, Healing and Resources.

Picking the right ones early on isn't hugely important, as you'll only need a few races before you've collected enough Foxblood to unlock everything, but it will take a bit longer before you can fully max out the Stars.

The best talents to unlock first in Realm of Ink

All ink talents

Of the 33 talents found in Realm of Ink, you should buy the first level of each as soon as possible. This is because Parent talents, which cannot be purchased directly, become active once the talents in their tier are purchased. Parental talents are extremely powerful, much more so than normal star talents. Unlocking a single talent in a tier will give you a tier 1 version of the parent talent, though you won't be able to unlock the next tier until you've unlocked the other talents from the previous tier.

Now the question is, which talent is most important in the short term, being worthy of your hard-earned Foxblood. There are a few different options available to players which are as follows:
