It's safe to say that Yuji Itadori was key to the win at the end, and he certainly made a switch to defeat the King of Curses, Sukuna. Yuji arguably reached the next level of power during this fight and made a solid case for himself as the strongest modern wizard after Gojo's death in JJK.

Yuji has tremendous power as JJK's protagonist. He has enough potential to reach the level of Sukuna.

That being said, there is definitely a challenge he faces from the likes of Yuta Okkotsu and, surprisingly, Megumi Fushiguro as well. Looking at how much Megumi has grown lately, it's safe to say that she could become the strongest modern wizard, potentially even stronger than Yuji Itadori.

Megumi's potential to rival Gojo Satoru

  • Megumi has the Inherited Ten Shadow Technique
  • Megumi could match Gojo

Megumi Fushiguro already had the potential to rival Gojo in the series. Being born into one of the Three Great Families certainly allows him to reach these levels. But even among those born within the Three Great Families, Megumi was quite special. Megumi was born with the Inherited Cursed Technique of the 10 Shadows. This is a curse technique that not everyone in the Zenin family can inherit, and those who were lucky enough to obtain it gain the potential to reach incredibly high levels.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say? – Gojo

Megumi's potential to match Gojo

It can be said that Megumi has incredible levels of talent. In fact, Gojo explicitly stated that a long time ago, the two heads of the Gojo family and the Zenin family both inherited abilities similar to Gojo and Megumi themselves, namely the Limitless and Six Eyes technique and the 10 Shadows technique. , respectively, fought and matched each other in battle. When these two fought a long time ago, the battle resulted in a draw and both of them dying at the same time.

The implication here is that Megumi can match Gojo in terms of power if she manages to use her abilities correctly. The level of talent Megumi is born with isn't for everyone. That being said, talent alone cannot take Megumi to the next level. He must work hard and reach a level similar to that of Gojo and Sukuna. Megumi took this advice to heart and certainly worked incredibly hard.

Gojo-Geto-Yuji-Megumi-Parallel.3

It can be said that by the time of the Culling Game arc, Megumi had improved drastically in terms of power. His control over the 10 Shadow Technique had greatly improved, and even his half-expanding domain looked more menacing. But, Megumi was far from the finished product, which meant there was a higher ceiling for her to reach, and potentially even a breakthrough. Only the 10 Shadow Technique can make Megumi the most powerful modern wizard, provided she continues to master it. But, Megumi can reach an even higher level, and it's all because Sukuna effectively took over his body for a significant amount of time.

The case for Megumi Fushiguro who has shrine

Megumi Fushiguro could use Sukuna's shrine

In the Culling Game arc of Jujutsu KaisenMegumi Fushiguro was taken over by Sukuna. This was after Sukuna said the words “Chain”, after which she took a bath that suppressed Megumi's soul. While Sukuna greatly benefited from this change, the active use of Megumi's body meant that, due to muscle memory, Megumi would remember her movements and become stronger at the same time. Sukuna's cursed energy was leaking into Megumi's body, and this case was quite similar to Yuji himself. As fans know, Yuji was able to inherit the Shrine from Sukuna because his energy seeped into his body greatly. Due to using the Shrine multiple times in Yuji's body, the muscle memory made sure to remember this technique well and use it a lot in battle once he truly woke up.

Winning by dying and winning even if you die are two completely different things! – Gojo

A similar case can be made for Megumi, although it has not been confirmed whether she can continue to use these powers or not. There is no reason for Megumi not to inherit the Shrine if Yuji could. Of course, it can be said that Yuji was able to inherit the technique due to his blood connection with Sukuna, but this was not explicitly stated in the story, and there is every reason for Megumi to inherit this technique as well, given that he could at least fight against Sukuna.

Gojo died early in JJK's Shinjuku Showdown arc. His end was a big disappointment for fans.

If Megumi also inherited the Shrine, then, he would definitely be the undisputed strongest of the JJKprovided it fulfills its full potential. This would mean that Megumi has access to techniques like Unintended Shrine and even techniques like World Splitting Dismantle. The fact that Sukuna has used all of these techniques in his body means that it should be easier for him once he starts training them. This is one of the major benefits of having Sukuna in his body.

At the same time, fans also know that Sukuna, using the 10-shadow technique in his body, strengthened him a lot. Megumi should be able to use Max Elephant techniques similar to Piercing Blood, just like Sukuna did. He should be able to create the Fusion Beast named Agito and at the same time use Mahoraga properly, this time much better than before. Megumi has every reason to be incredibly powerful once she fulfills her potential in the future JJK, and when that happens, she will truly become the most powerful modern wizard.

Could Megumi be stronger than Yuji?

Megumi would have surpassed Yuji's level with both the Shrine and 10 Shadows

Megumi tells Itadori that she has done enough.

As it stands, Yuji is definitely stronger than Megumi and there's no denying that fact. However, Megumi can reach a very high level if she fulfills her potential. All Megumi needs to do is fully master the 10 Shadows technique, which includes taking control of a stronger version of Mahoraga that Sukuna used in the fight against Gojo. Furthermore, Megumi should also master techniques such as creating the Beast Agito fusion among many others. Once she controls all of these to perfection and meets the requirements for a perfect domain extension, Megumi should be able to rival Yuji in terms of power.

Additionally, having Sukuna's moves imprinted into his body means that Megumi will be able to fight better than ever before. Add to that the possibility of him inheriting the Shrine, and if that is indeed the case, then there's no denying that he can actually surpass even Yuji and become the most powerful modern wizard, possibly approaching -se of Gojo and Sukuna levels themselves.

Of course, fans don't know if they'll ever get to see that, because there's no sequel planned for JJK. But at least theorizing about Megumi's potential is definitely fun.

The final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
