Why Todo was the MVP of the series

Key recommendations

  • Gojo's belief in uplifting others versus being alone prevailed in the end, highlighting the theme of support.
  • Aoi Todo played a vital role as Yuji's support system in fights and pivotal moments throughout the series.
  • Todo's cursed “Boogie Woogie” technique and selfless nature made him an indispensable character in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen it was nothing more than a series that emphasized the importance of friendship and the benefit of relying on others. This was the highlight of fan-favorite Gojo's presence in the series, especially when it came time for his long-awaited showdown against Sukuna. These 2 represented opposing ideologies, where the former wanted to lift others up so no one would be alone, while the latter relied only on himself.

So seeing how the story ended, it's clear that Gojo's ideology was superior and showed how central the theme of support for Jujutsu Kaisen. In this regard, perhaps no character in the entire story had a more useful and important role than the legendary Aoi Todo, who can be seen as the reason why Yuji was able to overcome his greatest obstacles! So let's see how indispensable Todo was in the story.

The story arc

Scary Arc of the Uterus

When Todo made his series debut, no one could have predicted the kind of story arc that would play out for him. He was introduced as a violent and quick-tempered wizard who beat Megumi senseless simply because he had boring taste in women, the absurdity of which caught fans off guard and quickly piqued their interest. During the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Todo was about to do the same to Yuji until he found out that their taste in women was the same, causing him to envision a lifetime with Yuji as his best friend.

After likening Yuji to his best friend and brother, Todo became the biggest supporting character in the series. This was first seen in the same arc where Jujutsu High was attacked by Hanami, a special grade curse. Although well above their pay grade, Yuji and Todo continued to defeat the Cursed Spirit using both cursed techniques in perfect conjunction while playing off each other very well.

What can I change in my technique range? Just living things? Not! My technique works on Crused Corpses and inanimate objects too!

However, as integral as he was in every combat situation, Todo's development really shined in the moments outside of battles. The first is during the fight against Hanami, where he sees Yuji out of combat. With a stern talking to and a slap across the face, he makes Yuji realize that he doesn't need to get too upset, so they both lock up and proceed to give Hanami the beating of his life! The same goes for the end of the series fight against Sukuna, where Todo comes in at the last moments to save everyone and once again help Yuji in his time of need.

However, the best example of Todo being the greatest supporting character is in Yuji's battle against Mahito. Mahito was perhaps Yuji's greatest enemy in the story, in that they were both opposites representing different ideologies, similar to Gojo and Sukuna. After Mahito killed so many people, including Yuji's loved ones like Nobara and Junpei, he was at the lowest point of his life, so much so that he gave up.

Without fighting back, he became easy pickings for Mahito to kill on the spot. However, here Yuji was saved by Todo, who gave him a life-changing speech about the necessity of what they're doing and how Yuji now has the will of everyone he lost, so he just can't give up. After Yuji re-enters the fight, he and Todo go on to give Mahito one of the most satisfying beatings of the series, and even at the end, Todo willingly sacrifices his Cursed Technique so that Yuji can defeat him for good Mahito.

Todo is the perfect partner in crime

Aside from the plot and thematic importance of this character, he is also one of the most powerful wizards in Jujutsu Kaisen universe and the perfect one to fight alongside! Todo's cursed technique, Boogie Woogie, is one of the most difficult to face, as it allows him to switch places with anything that has cursed energy by clapping his hands. Although it sounds simple on the surface, Todo's creativity and skill with his technique make him extremely confusing for his opponents!

This was highlighted in every battle he participated in, as even Sukuna, the most powerful and experienced wizard in history with the greatest knowledge of Cursed Energy, had difficulty keeping up with Todo's masterful application of Boogie Woogie. The technique itself, along with his already superhuman strength, makes Todo an incredibly difficult opponent to face.

Trade with me or Sukuna's vessel? That split second decision makes my mind reel!

Moreover, he is a selfless character who, despite his obvious talent and strength, tries to make Yuji shine as much as possible. Due to the nature of Boogie Woogie, it's the perfect kind of Cursed Technique “support” that disorients the opponent and works perfectly with another wizard, which was seen by how well Todo and Yuji fought together each time.

Todo is also incredibly crafty. After the pivotal role he played in helping Yuji defeat Mahito for good, he was shown to have seemingly lost the ability to perform his Cursed Technique. However, he made a surprise comeback against Sukuna with a vibration attached to his left arm that allowed him to perform the Boogie Woogie at an even faster rate and more powerfully than ever before, making him indispensable in Sukuna's eventual defeat and for saving any other wizard. from the Evil Altar area. It's safe to say that if Todo wasn't in the story, Jujutsu Kaisen it would have ended much sooner!

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
